Edited 02 October 2011 by Steven - Post edited and links removed. A lot has changed since this post was first published, but the idea of contributing still remains.
Back to the original post:
Over the weekend we uploaded our new home page. One of the drivers behind the redesign is to encourage more users to contribute more. If your reading this or find yourself visiting our site often you could consider contributing.
There are several ways you can contribute to the site:
- Forums - if you have a question or like to help others answer their question this is the place. Even if you cannot answer someone's question in full, a partial answer or just a suggestions on where to look can be helpful.
- Blogs - if you have an opinion, some news you want to share or just something to say you can write a blog post. In addition to featuring in the blog section of our site blogs will also appear on our home page for a short time.
- Wiki - this is our electrical text book / reference / tutorial. If you have some knowledge on a subject consider adding to a page or starting a new page. The Wiki caters for all levels of experience and knowledge so anything you can add will be useful to someone.
- Comments - if you come a cross an interesting blog or Wiki page leave a comment. Say if you think the post is good or not, suggest improvements, point out errors or omissions, give alternatives, etc.
The only restriction on contributing is that you need to be logged in. If you are not registered it takes only a couple of minutes.
In addition to helping others, by contributing you could also be increasing your own recognition and status. For example every so often I get contacted by a headhunter or someone trying to entice me to a better job and their first knowledge or me came from myElectrical.com.
If you have read this far then perhaps it's time to pick up the pen (or keyboard) and add something to the site.
